Show STATE TAKES SALEM LAKE SALT LAKE CITY Salem. Utah authorities today turned over to the State Fish and Game department Salem Lake to be used as a public fishing pond . The lake comes to the department depart-ment under a no-cost contract. For several years Salem residents have tried to run the pond as a private venture, charging ' for fishing. Conflict with state laws made the venture unsuccessful so city council men voted to turn its regulation over to the state department. de-partment. A variety of fishing is offered at the lake. Bass, rainbow trout, perch of the the large variety, and cat fish give fisherman ample catches. Last year, fishing on the lake opened May 1. It will be different now that it is under state control. con-trol. The date for this year's opening has not been scheduled but it will be either June 1 or 15. The lake is a fresh body of water, nearly a mile long and over a block and a half wide. Rainbow trout will be planted in the source throughout the year, Commissioner Cook said. |
