Show FRUIT DISPLAY TO BE FEATURE AT COUNTY FAIR "Fruit growing which represents repre-sents possibly the greatest industry indus-try in Utah county should be well represented at the county fair this year," reported I. J. Burr, supervisor su-pervisor of horticulture department. depart-ment. One of the greatest reasons for exhibiting fruit is to show others what is being grown by their neighbors. Another educational reason for displaying fruits is to acquaint the public with the different dif-ferent varieties. For these reasons rea-sons fruit growers are urged to exhibit as many varieties as possible. pos-sible. Now is also a good time to show and popularize any new varieties that we may have. Approximately 80 cash prizes will be given for best plates and packs of apples, pears, peaches, prunes, grapes and nuts. For exhibition purposes, a plate shall consist of five specimens of apples, pears and peaches. Three bunches of grapes and enough plums or prunes to cover an eight-inch eight-inch plate. Plates will be furnished furnish-ed by the fair association. Codling moth or San Jose scale disqualify any exhibit. Apples and pears may be polished. Do not remove re-move bloom from grapes, plums or prunes. Fruit packs are to consist of two boxes of apples, pears, peaches and prunes, and are to be of fruit extra fancy grade. The boxes are to be lined with paper and the fruit systematically packed pack-ed and wrapped. The stems should be on apples and pears. |
