Orton was hostess to members of the Home Culture club at Valley Tavern on Friday afternoon. Following a dainty lunch served to about nineteen club members and guests, Mrs. E. V. Boorman gave a detailed and interesting paper on pottery. Mrs. Mary Bird and Mrs. Helen Thorpe entertained with a piano duet. The meeting was under the direction of Mrs. D. B. Welch, president. An especially interesting meeting meet-ing of the Ladies' Literary club was held Saturday night, at the home of Mrs. A. E. Jacobsen, with Mrs. T. J. Callister as assisting assist-ing hostess. A delicious Thanksgiving Thanks-giving luncheon was served at 7:30 o'clock, followed by the program. pro-gram. President Rea Straw in keeping with the occasion, gave a few words on the spirit of Thanksgiving and welcomed friends who had attended with club members as special guests. Mrs. Lela Packard entertained with a vocal solo, accompanied by Mrs. Mary Bird and Mrs. Bird also gave a piano solo. The program featured a review of two of the Joseph books by Mrs. Christen Jensen of the B. Y- IT.. On the occa.sion of their mother's moth-er's birlhday anniversary, last Friday, three sistei-s and a brother broth-er together with n number of friends met a a soeial at the home of Mrs. Lena Maycock. They were Airs. Annie Brown, 85, and Mrs. Mary Atwood 83, both of Spanish Fork. Mrs. Esther Condi'e Til, and Dennis Palfreyman, 75, of this eity. The time was spent with soeial chat and reminiscing especially on the life of their mother. Mrs. Hannah Butler Palfreyman, Pal-freyman, who passed away a number of years ago. A nicely arranged ar-ranged and tasty dinner was served to those present. Members of the current Study club spent a pleasant evenrng Monday, when they were enter-taineded enter-taineded at the home of Miss Melba Sumsion. A feature of the meeting; was a review of the hook, "The Flowering of New England," given in splendid manner man-ner by Miss Elda Hansen. The evening's entertainment was preceded pre-ceded with a tasty lunch served to thirteen members and Mrs Hazel William Thompson, a special spe-cial guest. Mrs. Frances Hansen was hostess host-ess to members of the Y. H. M. club which was recently organized, organ-ized, at her home in Provo Friday afternoon. The group enjoyed sewing and a delicious lunch. In attendance were the following: Mrs. La Dean Henrichsen, Mrs. Reba Clark, Mrs. Veryle Thompson, Thomp-son, Mrs. Electa Cox of Provo, Mrs. Yvonne Johnson, Mrs. Maryn Johnson, Mrs. Dorothy Hazel, and Mrs. Dorothy Weight of Spring-ville. Spring-ville. Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Salisbury and son Joe, left Saturday night for Rochester, Minn., where Mr. Salisbury wi-11 consult specialists at the Mayo Bros, clinic in re- Provo. Approximately 45 club members and friends were in attendance. Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Grant and Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Strong have just returned from a few days business and ' pleasure trip to Ely, Ptoche, and other cities ! in Nevada. AD SOC '. Among the enjoyable parties of the week was one given by the First Ward Genealogical society Monday night, in honor of the retiring officers. James Graves acted as chairman of the social with John Hardy in charge of the program. Games and refreshments refresh-ments were other entertaining features. Approximately 85 genealogical gene-alogical workers and their partners part-ners were in attendance. The retiring re-tiring officers were Harvey Hut-chinsen Hut-chinsen and Miss Ileen Felix. George Peterson was retained as a counselor and Wells Crandall, a former counselor, has been sustained sus-tained as genealogical chairman to succeed Mr. Hutchinsen. Miss Verlain Beardall is the new secretary. Members of the S. T. club were entertained Monday night at the home of Mrs. Manilla Brown. Progressive Pro-gressive contract bridge followed an 8 o'clock luncheon served at small tables. For the evening's games, Mi's. Hugh Baxter won high score prize. Twelve club members were in attendance. Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Harmer had as their guests during a few days last week, Mrs. Harmer's brother and wife, Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Burton of Roswell, New Mexico. |
