Show 500 were played, with prizes going to Mrs. Alice Beesley of Provo, for contract; Mrs. Etta Thorpe for auction, and to Mrs. Freda Harrison for 500. Following the games, a dainty lunch was served to 80 guests. Hostesses for the occasion were President Hazel Roylance, Mrs. Esther Johnson, Mrs. Floss Phillips, Mrs. Inez Chader, Mrs. Grace McKenzie, Mis. Fron Thorn, Mrs. La Preal Fiel and Mrs. Elsie Thyrett. l SOCIETY NEWS City officials and their partners part-ners were entertained by local firemen and their wives Wednesday Wednes-day at a dinner-dance in Firemen's Fire-men's hall. Reed Rigtrup was toastmaster with short talks by Mayor A. O. Thorn and Councilman Council-man EmI'l Ostlund. Joe Allen and Harvey Hutchinson sang; Beth Bruhn, Provo, played her accoi'dion, and Fern Simkins read. Mrs. Mary Bird and Mrs. Bell Thomas were accompanists. Daughters of Utah Pioneers, Camp Aaron Johnson, met Thursday Thurs-day at the home 'of Mrs. Catherine Cath-erine Sumsion with Mrs. Elizabeth Eliza-beth Hutchings, Mrs. Preal York and Mrs. Delia Harris assisting hostesses. The lesson on "Friends of Pioneers," was given by Mrs. Ethel Miner. Mrs. Catherine Sumsion gave the history of her grandmother, Mary Calder; Mrs. Jessie Dalton and Mrs. Mae Groesbeck sang, accompanied by Mrs. Bell Thomas, and Miss Lula Lejchty read. Refreshments were served. Captain Josie Alleman was in 'charge. Friends were entertained by Mrs. Rebecca Reynolds Thursday. Reading and discussion of current events were enjoyed together with a dainty lunch served by the hostess. Present were: Mrs. S. L. Mendenhall, Sr., Mr. A. C. Bird, Mrs. Anna Mendenhall, Mrs. M. W. Bird, Mrs. Irene Cook, and Mrs. John Dougall. The group met recently at the home of Mrs. Anna Mendenhall. Officers and teachers of the First ward Sunday school and their partners entertained Thursday Thurs-day night at the home of Superintendent Super-intendent and Mrs. Howard May-cock. May-cock. Mrs. Emma Gottfred-son Gottfred-son was in charge. The lesson on "Pioneer Friends" was given by Mrs. J. W. Olsen, Mrs. John Hardy gave the history of her Grandmother and Grandfather Christensen. John Hardy sang accompanied by Mrs. Lola Weight Lunch was served. Assisting hostesses were Mrs. Julia Dallin, Mrs. Hattie Allen and Mrs. Erva Childs. Busy Finger club members will be guests of Mrs. Marie Cranmer at her home on Thursday, Dec. 1. Announcement is made of the marriage last week of Stanley Hind marsh of this city and Eliza Poulsen of Lake Shore, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Alleman of this city have received word that their son, Ray, will shortly receive his Ph. D., from John Hopkins university at Baltimore. Ray is employed this year as physics instructor in St. Johns college, Annapolis, Md. Mrs. Sylvia Caldwell, Mrs. Clara Ludvigson, Mrs. Ina Nielson Niel-son and son, Farland of Gunnison, Gunni-son, Mrs. June Nielson and daughter, daugh-ter, Buleah of Salt Lake City, were dinner .guests of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Weight Friday. They came here especially to attend the funeral services for Mrs. Mellissa Messinger, an aunt. Relatives and friends entertained entertain-ed at a miscellaneous shower one night last week for Mrs. Hyrum Barker, whose home and most of the household equipment in Hobble Hob-ble Creek canyon, were burned recently. The group enjoyed games, social chat and a lunch. The guest of honor received a great number of useful household articles. One of the most successful and enjoyable parties of the past week 'was that given by the Legion auxiliary Saturday afternoon, at Memorial hall, in the form of a public card social.
