Show FINAL GRID GAMEFR1DAY i The curtain will ring down on spring football at the Brlgham Young university next Friday afternoon at 4:30 o'clock when the varsity team engages in a wind-up wind-up game with a picked team from the alumni. The game will follow immediately immed-iately after the close of the Region Re-gion 4 trackmcet, in which cinder athletes from the schools in Utah county will compete. The track meet is slated for 2:30 o'clock. Coach Romney has .an outstanding out-standing group of players on the varsity squad this spring, notwithstanding not-withstanding the fact that some of the ace players are spending all their time at track. Yet the burly outfit they will run up against in the old-timers likewise like-wise looks mighty formidable Names Probable Starters For the varsity Melvern Wheeler Whe-eler will pet the call at center, with Captain Max Warner and Dewey Favero slated for guard posts. Tea will be at one tackle position, with Cook or Asay at the other, and the veterans Gillespie Gilles-pie and Oaks at the wings. La-Comb La-Comb is to call signals and the shifty Jim Russell and the cream of the ball-carriers Floyd Merk-ley Merk-ley arc booked as halfbacks. Jim Durrant will be fullback. In the backficld of the old-timers old-timers will be a crew of men who have at one time or another been pulse speeder-uppers, pn the "Y" teams. Marv Skousen, who - helped in the spring coach-- coach-- ing is fullback, with Paul "Simba" Thorn, Owen Rowe, Ernie Shober arid Wayne Simper, halfbacks. Signal calling will be handled by Clug Cacher and Mark Ballif. Stout Line Keith Wansguardand Markham will alternate at center, Lloyd Shields, Andy Dastrup and Blaine Allen are to handle the guard spots, Henry Simmons, Hap Nis-onger Nis-onger and Vernon Condie will play at the tackle positions and Red Richardson, Wierd Eggertsen and T. Hettig are on the docket to play at end positions. Refereeing will be done by Pete Wilson, triple-threat halfback of last year, Kay Hart is linesman and Grant Hutchinson is scheduled sched-uled for umpire. Players injured in the iritra-squad iritra-squad game of last week, are in shape to get in the game again, Coach Romney says, except that Ned Dickson will likely not don a suit anymore. So frequent have his injuries been that it is deemed advisable to count him out, although al-though his work has been of high caliber. Russell, Merkley and Wright are on the okeh list. |
