Following a delicious luncheon lunch-eon suggestive of Thanksgiving, cards were enjoyed with prizes won by Mrs. Ann Johnson and Mrs. Lloyd Jolly, a guest. Others present were Mrs. Elsie Robertson, Robert-son, Mrs. Blanch Hales, guests and Mrs. Helen Robbins. Mrs. Alice Ence. Mrs. Dolly Smith. Mrs. Coe Straw, Mrs. Hortense Harwood, Mrs. Ann Johnson, Mrs. Norma Noe and Mrs. Birdie Thorpe, members. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Despain of this city, went to Salt Lake City Saturday night where they were guests of Westly Eddington at a reunion of the party who traveled trav-eled down the Green river to- gether with a French party whom they met on the trip. A delightful time was spent during the evening with tales of the trip and Lee Kay showed a r.umtier of moving pictures taken of animal and bird life in that vicinity. Dinner was served by Mr. and Mrs. Eddington to the following guests: Mr. and Mrs. Lee Kay, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Clyde of He-ber He-ber City; Mr. and Mrs. Roy Despain De-spain of Springville; Dr. and Mrs. D. E. Rasmussen of Logan, and members of the French party, including Bernard de Colmont and his wife Mme. Genevieve de Colmont Col-mont and Antoine de Seynes. The French party was taken on a sightseeing tour of the city by Mr. Eddington Friday night. Friday evening at a formal dinner party held in Provo, Miss Jettie Jacob, senior at the Springville Spring-ville 'high school, was initiated into the Ebel Music club. Miss Jacob gained membership in the club for the outstanding work she did as drum major of the prize winning Bell high band in California last year. Miss Fern Jensen spent the week end with her parents at Mapleton. Mr. and Mrs. I. S. Brown, Mrs. Leo Weight and Mrs. Paul Brown of Provo went to Gunnison on Wednesday to visit Mrs. Brown's mother, Mrs. Lydia Mjetcalf, who was ninety-three years old that day. lUnder the direction of President Presi-dent Marie Whiting of the Mapleton Maple-ton Primary, a party for the retiring re-tiring officers was held at the home of Mrs. Buleah Whiting. Mrs. Ruth Holley and Mrs, Edna Lmdsey, honored guests, were presented pre-sented with lovely gifts, as were Mrs. Harriet Nielson and Mrs. Mae Binks for their long service. The latter two officers were not retiring. The entertainment featured fea-tured a review of their trip to Europe and moving picture slides by Mrs. Whiting and her daughter daugh-ter Venice. Luncheon was served in conclusion to about 20 ladies. Following the autumn dance Saturday night, Miss Nedra Beal entertained a group of friends, at a chili supper at her home. Guests included Bob Burt, Helen Nelson, LaCelle Bramall, Mary Louise Wingate, Earl Nielson," Margaret Benson, Elliott Cameron, Camer-on, LaVern Child, Lamar Boyer, Francis Tuttle, Rulon Fox and the hostess. Mr. and Mrs. Harvard Osmund and two children of Denver, spent the week end here with relatives, en route to make their home in San Francisco, Calif. Mrs. Osmund was the former Melba Condie of this city. Entre Nous club members were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Thorpe at their home last Saturday Satur-day night. Cards featured the entertainment with high score prize won by Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Ron-ald Thorpe. In honor of Mrs. H. M. Doug-all Doug-all whose birthday was Wednesday, Wednes-day, a lovely dinner party was criven in the evening by 'her daughter, Mrs. Wyman Wills. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. M. Packard, John Groesbeck, Mr. end Mrs. Harrison Conover, the guest of honor and Mr. and Mrs. Wills. ed of Misses Margaret and Naomi Pierce and Grace Holley entertained enter-tained with vocal music. A tasty lunch was served in conclusion to about 30 relatives and friends. One of the loveliest parties of the season was given at the home of President Hannah Clyde, complimentary com-plimentary to the retiring officers of the Stake Relief Society board, and partners and board members. Early in the evening from two long and beautifully decorated tables, a Thanksgiving dinner was served. During the meal, Mrs. Clyde gave an appropriate reading; read-ing; Mrs. Ella Bird toasted the husbands and S. J. Boyer responded. re-sponded. Tributes were paid to the retiring officers, Mrs. Anna Johnson, Mrs. Ethel Weight, Mrs. Leah Jones and Mrs. Sarah Brown, although the latter is seriously seri-ously ill and unable to attend. Lovely gifts were presented each in appreciation of their services. Miss Helen Palfreyman entertained enter-tained with vocal solos, as did Mrs. Helen F. Sanford and Norman Nor-man Clyde. An interesting feature also was the comments made by Mrs. Buleah Whiting on the Unknown Un-known Soldier's grave, which she visited on her summer's tour of Europe. Concluding the meeting, lunch was served by the hostess. The preceding meeting of the Mothers' Study club was held at the home of Irs. J. Emmett Bird and featured a splendid program including an especially interesting talk by Mrs. Arthur Gaeth of Provo, on national peace. About 30 members were in attendance. at-tendance. On Friday, the club will meet with Mrs. S. J. Boyer and all members are urged to be present. Mrs. Ray Colton and her sister, Miss Olive Winterton of Provo, entertained members of the Cesta Tie Alumnae, B. Y. u. social unit, at the home of the former, Wednesday Wed-nesday evening. The evening's entertainment en-tertainment feature a review of Blanch Colton Williams' biography biogra-phy of George Elliott. Mrs. A. E. Jacobsen will be hostess to members of the Ladies Literary club at her home on Saturday, Sat-urday, November 19. The evening's even-ing's program will feature a review re-view of the book, "Joseph in Egypt," by Thomas Mann, to be given by Mrs. Christen Jensen of the B. Y. u- A large group of ward members, relatives and friends attended a farewell social for Jack Cher-riTigton, Cher-riTigton, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Cherrington, who leaves soon for the central states mission, in the First ward amusement hall, Wednesday Wed-nesday night. A program and dancing were features. Jack was also honor guest at a party given by officers and teachers of the First ward M. I. A., in which he has been so active, ac-tive, and their partners in the ward hall, last Saturday night. Mrs- Gertrude Clements and Victor Vic-tor Frandsen conducted an interesting in-teresting period of games which were followed by a nice lunch served under direction of the M. I. A. presidency. Members of the S. T. club were guests of Mrs. Gwen Baxter at her home Thursday evening. Following Fol-lowing a delicious lunch served at small tables with decorattons in patriotic colors, progressive contract bridge was played. Mrs. Florence Phillips was winner of high score prize. In attendance were 12 club members and guests. Mrs. Mabel Wright was hostess to members of the Jeune Mere club at the Mrs. Virgil Bird home last Wednesday night. A tasty luncheon was served at one long table early in the evening. President Presi-dent Gweneth Thorn had the meeting in charge and roll call was answered with a bit of philosophy philo-sophy by each . member. The program featured an interesting review of the book "Yellow Butterfly," But-terfly," given by Mrs. Marie Whiting. In attendance were twelve club members and Mrs. Ellen Sessions, a guest. An interesting meeting of the Legion auxiliary was held last Wednesday evening at Memorial hall, with President Hazel Roy-lance Roy-lance in charge. The program included a well given review of the play, "Susan and God," by Mrs. Bert Broesbeck. Newell Webb entertained with guitar and vocal selection and Mrs. E. T. Crandall membership chairman, gave a short talk on membership. Plans were also discussed during dur-ing the meeting for a public card party the time and place to be arranged for later.
