Show KtUREATION ACTIVITIES The results of the finals of the city tennis tournament are lis follows: Krie Boorman won the city tennis championship for men when he defeated Matt Olsen (Hove, 3-6, 3-6. Brilliant tennis was displayed by both players, who were very evenly matched. After losing the first set 6-love Boorman exhibited some excellent stroking to take the next two fets, which won for him the championship. In the girls' tournament, Ar-lene Ar-lene Hutch defeated Emma Ul-!ock, Ul-!ock, 6-3, 2-6, 6-3, to take the championship. Floyd Anderson won the championship for the boys' tournament tour-nament when he defeated Shirley Thorpe, 7-5, 4-6, and 6-3. A doubles tournament will begin be-gin next week, the schedule of which is being drawn up. All persons interested hand their ! names to Monty Groesbeck. ! An exciting time was spent by the children at the playground last week. Pirate games were played, pirate stories told, and pirate hats made and decorated with skull and crossbones, ships and flags. The climax of the week 1 was when the children came all decked out as pirates Saturday , morning and engaged in a big j treasure hunt. Four captains were named and led their groups under the cognomens of Captain One-eye, Captain Hook, Captain Scarface and Captain Kidd. Each group with the aid of the clues given them, started on the hunt and when the map was found, dashed madly to find the treasure, treas-ure, which consisted of a large box of golden, oranges. The booty was divided and each child went home eating his share. During the current week, the theme of the playground activity is based on the pioneer idea. The climax of the week will be a hike which will begin Friday morning for children over 8 years of age. The children will be divided di-vided into two gi-oups, the Pioneers Pio-neers and the Indians. The first group will leave at 6 o'clock Friday morning and- the second group will leave at 7 o'clock and will pick up the clues left by the Pioneers. All children will bring a lunch which will be eaten when the Indians overtake the Pioneers. The hike will be under the supervision of Geraldine Eg-gertsen Eg-gertsen and Wilford Mowers. For the younger children, a picnic will be held at the park, Friday morning beginning at 10 o'clock. Games will be played and stories told under the supervision of Mrs. Neilson. All children should bring their lunch. |
