Sponsors Days Activities; Bands, Programs, And Sports - (V Sponsored by the stake M.I.A. , an especially interesting and entertaining en-tertaining program of events is outlined for this community in observance of Pioneer Day, July 24, it was announced today. The activities wili begin with ' children's games and competitive sports from 9 a. m. to 11 a. m., at the city park. Prizes will be awarded the winners of each event. From 11 a. m. to 12 a. ni., a concert will be given by the high school junior band under the direction of Wallace Martin. At 2 p. m., a program will be presented by the Daughters of Utah Pioneers in the Third ward chapel. At the same time from 2 to 3 p. m. a free candy shower show-er for children will take place at the city park-. Cecil E. McGavin of Spanish Fork, an especially interesting and able speaker, will give the main talk at the program in the afternoon. Community singing will be led by Mary Weight. Mrs. Myrtle Harrison will offer the invocation. Vocal solos will be given by Mts. Ellen Anderson; accordion selection by Mrs. W.J. Harris of Provo and Mrs. Miliie C. Schofield of Spanis'h Fork; vocal solos, Verla Whiting, Ma-pleton; Ma-pleton; readings. Miss Virginia Rivers and selections by the Mapleton Cowboys. After the program, soft ball and Jiorseshoe pitching together withfother competitive sports are scheduled. Prizes will be awarded the winners in these events. Concluding the day's entertainment, enter-tainment, a concert will be given at the city park by the high school senior band." The concert will begin at 5 o'clock. . An additional attraction of the celebration will be the Pioneer Relic room in the city hall which will be open from 3 to 6 p. m., with guides in attendance. |
