Show Attractions At The Rivoli Mae West spreads her own particular brand of light in the Land of the Midnight Sun in her newest picture, "Klondike Anne," which opens Wednesday at the Rivoli theater. The lady wio made curves famous fa-mous goes back to the period of the gay and gusty '90's for her latest production, returning to the type of role which won her fame in "She Done Him Wrong" and "Belle of the Nineties." A big cast headed by the virile Victor McLaglen supports her in the film. "Klondike Anne" begins on San Francisco's famed Barbary coast in its lustiest days, and winds up in Alaska during the fabulous gold rush. Miss West entertains 'em in 'Frisco and in the Yukon with equal ease. In 'Frisco she is held virtually a captive by a jealous lover, and, when she seeks to escape, he tries to stop her by force. In the struggle, he is killed. Mae flees to a s:camer awaiting her in the harbor. The vessel is commanded by Victor McLaglcn, a tough old salt who is immediately entranced by his fair passenger. He sets out under full steam for Alaska, stopping at one port to pick up additional passengers. pas-sengers. Among them is a girl missionary, mission-ary, bound for Nome to bring the Word of God to that turbulent city. She and Miss West become firm friends,- and Mae is deeply grieved when she dies at sea. Just at this time, federal officers board the vessel, in search of Miss West who is wanted for the San Francisco Fran-cisco affray. She dons the missionary's mis-sionary's clothes, and escapes detection. de-tection. But when the vessel arrives ar-rives at Nome, she is forced to carry on the pose. How she docs it, and what it ultimately brings, arc told excitingly excit-ingly and amusingly in the climactic cli-mactic episodes of the film. |
