Show I SOCIETY NBVS A number of friends were delightfully de-lightfully entertained Saturday evening with a party at tjhe home of Miss Janice Clark. Early in the evening the girls met at the Clark home where refreshments, refresh-ments, music and social chat were enjoyed. Later in a group they attended at-tended the show. There were Mar-jorie Mar-jorie Clark, Isabell Leslie, Odessa McKenzie, Tess Gammell, Lucille Averett, Phylis Weight, Verlaine Beaidall, Janice Clark, Bernice Harmer, Leora Morton, and Phylis Jensen, the latter t'nree from Mapleton. Mr. and Mrs. Gregg Metcalf recently came from Richfield to spend the winter with their children chil-dren in Springville and Provo. They are at present with a daughter, daugh-ter, Mrs. D. B. Palfreyman and family at Provo. The elderly couple were accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Earl Metcalf of Richfield. Rich-field. Earl Smith came from Bakers-1 special guests there were eight members present. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Whiting and daughter Marjorie of Maple-ton, Maple-ton, have just returned from a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Beeton at Malad, Idaho. Mis. Bee-ton Bee-ton was the former Louise Cook ol this city, a sister , to Mrs. Whiting. Whit-ing. Mrs. Melissa Messenger, 94, probably the oldest resident in this city has gone to Ogden to spend the winter with ur. and ivu-s. Nepni Packard. Members of the Current Study club held their initial meeting Monday night at the home ol Miss Melba Sumsion. The hostess host-ess was assisted by Miss Lillian Kussell, served a sumptuous turkey tur-key dinner after whicn Miss An-geiyn An-geiyn Warnick very interestingly reviewed the book, "Free Wheeling Wheel-ing Through Africa," by Jim Wilson. Members of the Alpha Beta club were delightfully entertained Friday Fri-day afternoon, November 6. at tne home of Mrs. Emil Ostlund. Mi's. F. W. Hoffman, president was in charge of the meeting. A feature of the afternoon entertainment entertain-ment was a review of the drama, 'The Old Maid", by Margaret Boyer of Provo. Vocal duets were given by Mrs. Reed Averett and Mrs. Bernice Dastrup of Provo, accompanied by Miss Christensen. Norma Rae Ostlund also gave a reading. Mrs. Harold Christensen, chairman of the art benefit penny drive, explained the movement to the club members and Mrs. Kenneth Ken-neth Condie was appointed chairman chair-man of the project. At the close of the meeting a tasty luncheon was served by the hostess. Mrs. Faye Snelson was hostess to members of her club last Friday evening. Following a delicious hot supper cards were featured. Mrs. Dell Clark was awarded high score prize and Mrs. Milessa Thompson, second. Mrs. Thompson Thomp-son and her daughter and Mrs. LaPreal Friel were special guests during the evening. The Alpha Beta club will meet Friday aiternoon at the home of Mrs. Charles Boyer instead of at the home of Mrs. M. R. Straw as was scheduled. All members are asked to be present. Elite club members will be guests of Mrs. Bell Sumsion at her home Friday evening at S p. m. An invitation is extended to all members to be" in attendance. Mr. and Mrs. Lyman Metcalf have returned to their home in Redland, Calif., after a vacation with Mr. Mctcalf's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Metcalf and other relatives and friends here. A number of friencs pleasantly surprised Mr. and Mrs. Dean Stewart Stew-art at their home Saturday night, the occasion being Mrs'; Stewart's birthday. Following a delicious luncheon progressive cards were featured and the prize, a birthday remembrance given to Mrs. Stewart. Stew-art. There were present, Mr. and Mrs. Theo Phillips. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Brown of Provo, Mr. and Mrs. Elden Palfreyman, Mr. and Mrs. Mark Tripp, Mr. and Mrs. Max Packard. Members of the Jovality club were guests of Mrs. Luell Best at her home Friday night. Special guests were Miss Josephine McKenzie, Mc-Kenzie, Miss Marie Rivers, Mrs. Margaret H. Blackett and Mrs. Coe Durrant. After the serving of a dainty and tasty lunch, cards were enjoyed and high score tattle ta-ttle evening went to Mrs. Louise Brown of Provo. In addition to the Miss Helen Alleman and Miss Pri-ceila Pri-ceila Nielson were welcomed as . no-; K.nbeis into the club. Other present were Mrs. Re'a Straw, Miss Prudence Wride, Miss Helen Palfreyman, Pal-freyman, Miss Mattie Davis, Mrs. Lucile Best, Miss Leone Cooper, Miss Warnick, Miss Elda Hansen and Miss Ellen Wheeler, Mr. and Mrs. I. S. Brown, Mr. and. Mrs. "Leo Weight and children, Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Clayson and children of Spanish Fork, and Mrs. Paul Brown and children chil-dren of Provo joined other relatives rela-tives at Gunnison last Sunday to celebrate the ninety-first birthday birth-day anniversary ot Mrs. Sylvia Metcalf, who is Mrs. Brown's mother. About 50 relatives in all were present from various parts of the state. Mrs. Metcalf is a sister to Mrs. Messenger, 94, the oldest resident of this community. Mrs. Ronald Thorpe will be hestess to members ot the Home Culture club at her home Friday atternoon. The program to feature fea-ture a talk by Hugh Baxter on the subject, "Our Place in the Rearming Re-arming World," is under the direction direc-tion of the International Relation Rela-tion committee. Members of Camp Springville D. U. P. were delightfully entertained enter-tained Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Hattie Dougall, Mrs. Olive McCurdy, Mrs. Rhoda Doug-all, Doug-all, Mrs. Ann Mendenhall, Mrs. Irene Strong and Mrs. Mary J. 1 Finley were assisting hostesses. The meeting featured a history of Hugh M. Dougall, early Springville Spring-ville settler, given by a daughter, Mrs. Emma D. Gardner. Her son Dougall X. Gardner also gave an interesting report of their recent trip to Boulder dam. Mi's. Mary Finley gave the regular lesson and the camp chorus, composed of Mrs. Dorothy Wheeler, Mrs. Bell Childs, Mrs. Irene Strong, Mrs. Lela Sumsion furnished music selections. Tasty refreshments refresh-ments were served at the close of the meeting which was in charge of Mrs. Bell Childs. Mrs. Laura Banner of Salt , Lake City, formerly of this city visited Wednesday with Mrs. Olive McCurdy and other friends in Springville. Mrs. John Keele and Mi's. Minerva Min-erva Avery of Blackfoot, Idaho, were guests the past week at the home of Mrs. E. T. Childs. They came here especially to attend the funeral of their brother, Carlos Hutchings. The Ladies Literary club members mem-bers will be entertained Thursday, Thurs-day, November 19, at the home of Mrs. Emma Jacobsen. The program will feature a paper on American Relations With the Orient," Mrs. C. G. Salisbury. All members are urged to be present pres-ent at 7:30 o'clock. |
