Show SOCIETY NWS j Members of the is. T. club were entertained at a delightful party Wednesday evening at the home of Mrs. Floss Phillip. A tasty ! luncheon was served at small tables early in the evening followed fol-lowed by contract bridge. Mrs. hugh Baxter won high score prize and other members present were Thclina Clark, .Hazel Harrison, Ora Rowland, Lois Clegg, Gertrude Gert-rude Sumsion, Melba Pennington, Kiln Crandall, Esther . Johnson, Killma Rowland, Hilda Grant and Manilla Brown. One of the largest and most successful parlies of this season was that given by the Fourth ward Relief in honor of the retiring re-tiring officers. Following preliminary pre-liminary exercises, the group assembled as-sembled ip the wara hall where i a suniptous' banquet was served j from several long tables. Ap proximately 130 members were i in attendance. President Ethel j Weight gave the welcome ad dress and introduced Mrs. Bert j Gioesbeck as toastnustress. Reynolds tu the visiting teachers. Lovely gilts were also presented to the retiring officers who responded with a few words of appreciation. On the occasion of her birthday birth-day Thursday, Mrs. Grace Mc-Kenzie Mc-Kenzie was happily surprised with a dinner given by her children at her home at noon. The long dining din-ing table was centered with a beautiful birthday cake and covers cov-ers were arranged for Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Lawrence of Provo, Mrs. Electa Cox, Mr. and Mrs. Ray McKenzie, Leland McKenzie and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. George Roylance. The group spent the afternoon in social chat. Mr. and Mrs. I. S. Brown, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Brown and children of Provo. Mrs. Lola Weight and children, motored to Gunnison on Thursday to participate in a family celebration in observance of the birthday anniversary of Mrs. I. s. Brown's mother, Mrs. , Sylvia S. Mrs. Anna Mendennall enter-tamed enter-tamed a group of friends at her home on Thursday afternoon at one of their regular meetings in which the group takes up the reading of some late book and the discussing of current events. Mr. and Mrs. ' Lawrence Clark of this city announce the engagement engage-ment of their daughter Janice, to Herbert Taylor, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ira Taylor of Spanish Fork, the marriage to take place in the near future. Daughters of Utah Pioneers, Camp Aaron Johnson, met at the Second ward chapel Thursday afternoon, under direction of Captain Cap-tain Josie Alleman. The program included the lesson on "Scandinavian "Scandi-navian Contributions to Utah," given by Mrs. Delia Harris; a sketch of the lives of Mr and Mrs Samuel Gudmundsen, by a daughter. Mrs Mary Childs; favorite violin numbers of Mr. Gudmundsen, by a great grandson, grand-son, Gordon Childs; a sketch of the life of Robert Brown by Mrs. Olive Brown and a song and poem by his daughter, who was a special spec-ial visitor. Concluding the meeting, meet-ing, refreshments were served Hostesses were Mrs. Catherine Sumsion. Mrs. Mary Childs, Mrs. Harry Carter, Mrs. Erma Gudmundsen Gud-mundsen and Mrs. Mary Hatfield. Members of the Jeune Mere club were entertained Wednesday night at the home Mrs. Florence Nielson. Progresive bridge featured fea-tured the meet with high score card prize going to Mrs. Minnie Richards and the consolation favor fa-vor to -Mrs. Naomi Thorn. Preceding Pre-ceding the games a tasty lunch was served by the hostess. The proceeding meeting of the club was held at the home of Mrs. Naomi Thorn, where a talk on, "Etiquette" was given by Mrs. Minnie Richards and Mrs. Beth Jensen review ed the bock, "Charni" Shirley and Phylis Peterson entertained during the evening with vocal duets. Dr. and Mrs. F. R. Bringhurst and children Fred and Robert, of Alhambra. Calif., are visiting the former's mother, Mrs. J. Frank Bringhurst and other relatives and friends here. They plan to remain re-main over Thanksgiving and Mrs. Bringhurst will return with them for an. indefinite visit in California. Califor-nia. Mrs. Rita Kelley was hostess to members of the Old Friends club at the home of her mother, Mrs. Austin Roylance on Friday night. During "500" games Mrs. Gertrude Gert-rude Clements won high score prize and Mrs. Vanza Mann, the consolation. Mrs. Reva Roylance was guest. Others in attendance were, Mrs. Lillie Hume, Mrs. Thelma Cherrington, Mrs. Lola Ewing, Mrs. Thelma Clark. Mrs. Muriel Robertson, Mrs. Odessa Child, Mrs. Ila Cranmer, Mrs. Marvel Anderson. Mrs. Blanch Tipton. The preceding meeting was held at the home of Mrs. Thelma Clark with a luncheon and cards featured. In the latter Mrs. Marvel Anderson and Mi's. Austin Roylance won prize s. Other guests were Mrs. Dell Clark and Mrs. Maude Curtis. Mrs. Charlote Anderson and son have arrived here from Green-river, Green-river, Wyo., to spend a few days with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. O. Hall. Under direction of Mrs. Estella Ollerton, class leader, members of the Fourth ward Seagull class comprising about 15 members, visited the shutins and elderly1 people of the ward on Tuesday afternoon, presenting a program and treat. A group of friends surprised Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Robertson at their home last Thursday night, the occasion being his birthaay. Cards and lunch were diversions with Mr. and Mrs. Harry Ewing, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Tipton, Mr. and Mrs. Arvil Child, Mr. and Mrs. Reed Clements and the host and hostess in atendance. The 4-H Anchor club were entertained en-tertained one evening last week at the home of Miss Fern Harrison. Har-rison. Miss Bessie Kirkham, extension ex-tension agent, gave work tor the winter, in conclusion, refreshments refresh-ments were served. The following follow-ing were present, Mrs. Estella Ollerton, leader; Lucille Miller, lleen Cook, Juanita Cook, Hazel Angus, Lucy Ollerton, the latter being in charge, 'the club will hold their next meeting on Friday Fri-day afternoon, at the home of Miss Lucille Miller, where the girls will work on their quilt. Daughters of Utah Pioneer Camp Kolob met at the home of Mrs. Jeanette Ullock on Thursday afternoon, when a delgihtful program pro-gram was given with Mrs. Emma iSeardall in charge. Community singing was led by Mrs. Krva Childs. A quartet from the high school furnished i n strumental numbers. The lesson on "Scandinavian "Scandi-navian Contributions to Utah" was given in fine manner by Mrs. J. W. Olsen; Mrs. Zelma Bear-, dall gave recollections of early Scandinavian people. Mrs. Ellen Anderson entertained with vocal solos favorites of her Grandfather and Grandmother Moroni Miner and her daughter entertained with readings. The history of Mrs. Mary Chase Miner, early pioneer, was given during the afternoon, by Mrs. Elizabeth Whitmore. Concluding Con-cluding the program, dainty refreshments re-freshments were served. Hostesses Hos-tesses for the occasion besides Mrs. Ullock were, Mrs. Hattie Sadie Beardall. There were 37 members in attendance. Members of the Missionary Society So-ciety of the Community church, spent an enjoyable aftdrnoon on Thursday, when Mrs. Joseph Easter, wife of the Reverend Mr. Easter, was hostess. The subject of the afternoon was given by Mrs. D. B'. Welch; Mrs. Bill Blanchard gave scriptural readings. A short business meeting meet-ing was also held and in conclusion, con-clusion, dainty refreshments were served to a large group in attendance. at-tendance. j Complimentary to Miss Cora Harmer, popular beauty operator ! of this city, who is to be mar- ried this week, a party was given Thursday night, at the home of Mrs. Emma Haymond. The group presented her with a iovely girt. The evening was spent with games, followed by a delicious de-licious lunch. Mrs. Haymond. Mrs. Roy Blanchard and two children of Denver, Colo., are, visiting Mr. Blanchard's parents, Mr. and Mrs. John W. Blanchard and also relatives in Provo. Members of the S. T. club will he guests of Mrs. Thelma Clark at her home next Wednesday evening. All are urged to be present at 8 o'clock. LaJolie club members were guests of Mrs. Madge Crandall at her home last Thursday night. Bridge was the feature of entertainment en-tertainment followed by a delicious deli-cious lunch. Prizes for the games went to Mrs. Dona Whitney, Mrs. Nathalie Oakley, Mrs. Taylor Burt. Others in attendance were Mrs. Evelyn Boyer, Mrs. Harriet Har-riet Miner, Mrs. Fay Hansen, Mrs. Ruth Miller, Mrs. Helen Spafford, Mrs. Reva Roylance, Mrs. Lucille Smith, Mrs. Ruth Jones of Provo and Mrs. Margaret Sumsion, the latter being a guest. Mr. and Mrs. John Binks of Salt Lake City, and daughter Manila of Los Angeles, Calif., visited wit'h Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Binks at their home on Wednesday. It was Mrs. Bink's eighty-third birthday and her other children called during dur-ing the day. Due to the illness of her only brother, Charles Bramall who fell recently and fractured his hip, no special party was arranged for the occasion. A number of neighbors and friends also called to extend wishes during the day. Mrs. Hugh tst,xter returned last Wednesday from several days visit with her mother, at Panguitch. A delightful time was spent at a fireside chat held recently at the home of Mrs. Mary Huntington. Hunting-ton. An interesting feature of the entertainment was a review of the book, "Mary Peters" by Miss Floss Harmer. In conclusion dainty refreshments re-freshments were served to about thirty two members and guests. The hig'h school Notre Chez j club under direction ot Miss Dorothy Dor-othy Shurtliff and Miss Jean Smith of the. home making department, de-partment, held a. regular meeting meet-ing Wednesday night at the high school.
