Net proceeds from the day's events will go toward completion comple-tion of the new Mapleton ward chapel. Activities of the day are under direction of the ward organizations. A general program and assembly as-sembly is to ba held at 10 a. m., at the amusement hall, after which races and games for children chil-dren will be featured. From 12 unlil 1:30 p. m., has been reserved re-served for lunch. There will be concessions throughout the day. At 2 p. in., roller skating is scheduled for children and adulls. At this time also a soft-ball soft-ball game is scheduled for the ball park, with two teams from. Mapleton to play. Among the major events of the day and which are expected lo draw a large crowd of out-of-town visitors, are the horse pulling and horse racing contests. con-tests. These are scheduled for 3 p. m., to 5 p. m. A total of $24 in prizes will be given in tne horse pulling contests, while $5 will be awarded the winner of the pony races and $10 for the blooded horse races. For the latter lat-ter event, a number of fine horses in vai'ious parts of the county are expected to be entered. en-tered. As a fitting climax to the day's celebration, a miniature parade is planned for 6 p. m to march down the main section of the town. For the float depicting the best pioneer theme, a prize will be given and for the first-and first-and second best floats depicting any theme, prizes are also offered. of-fered. Anyone is eligible to enter. en-ter. Committee chairmen are working work-ing to have a band concert during dur-ing the day if possible. There will be a small charge made for the ball game and horse racing and pulling events. Frank M. Jensen, bishop of the Mapleton ward, is general chairman of the day's festivities with Dallas Holley and Reed Hales in charge of horse pulling and racing events; Mrs. Marie Whiting, the miniature parade; Norris Binks, the program; Verl Jensen, ball games; Joseph L. The general chairmen are being be-ing assisted by other committeemen committee-men all' of whom hope to make the celebration one of the biggest big-gest and most entertaining ever held in Mapleton, a town which has in previous years, been commended com-mended for its fine Pioneer Day observances. |
