Show DISTINGUISHED PEOPLE VISIT GALLERY Among' the distinguished visitors visit-ors at the Springville high school art g a 1 1 e ry the past week w a s Hurlstone Fairchild, famous desert des-ert painter, who with Mrs. Fair-child, Fair-child, is making what he calls "a g"vpsy tour" of the slate. The couple came to Springville lor the express purpose or seeing the art collection of which they had heard a great deal about, and both expressed their delight at the high standard of the paintings paint-ings displayed. They voiced their appreciation also for an exhibit which features the conservative in art rather than the ultramodern ultramod-ern fad. They were interested too, in the manner in which the project is carried on and praised highly a community that has attained such a high cultural standard. Mr. Faii'child came west several sev-eral years ago as a mining- engineer en-gineer but he became so interested inter-ested in the beauty of the west-em west-em desert that he deserted his mining' career and for 'the past 11 years, has attempted with almost al-most phenomenal success, To portray the desert in her various moods. At a recent one-man exhibit 'held in Tuscon, Ariz., Mr. Fair-child Fair-child received unstinted praise for his sympathetic understanding understand-ing and skilful technique in handling hand-ling his favorite subject. While at the gallery, Mr. Fairchild expressed ex-pressed his desire to be represented repre-sented in next year's exhibition. Another artist of distinction to visit last week' was Miss Ethel Stum, who is president of the New Art League at York, Penn. . Other visitors of importance were Captain and Mrs. Prentiss of Reno, Nev., who were in town in the interest of the new home guard unit, recently organized. organ-ized. They were generous in their expressions of appreciation for the display. As one looks over the register regis-ter one is really amazed at the publicity the Springville gallery is receiving.
