Show As the Tourist Tide Sweeps Westward Indications are that, this summer, more tourists will visit the west than ever before. Europe, which has been drawing thousands of Americans Ameri-cans each season, won't get so many. Reason : The market crash in the east, not so much money available for travel. Every westerner knows that this condition really means a lucky break for the easterner the easterner is going to discover that his own west has Europe backed off the boards for scenery and everything else, barring r,uins. And a chap who has lost a few thousand in the stock market doesn't want to look at other ruins, anyway. They're too reminiscent. It is our job, westerners, to make our guests' visit a pleasant one, so that they'll come back next year, and the year after. We have the scenery, we have the climate and we have the old western spirit of hospitality. We should exhibit all three attractions, not just because we want tourist money, but because these things will help make Americans more neighborly; help to wipe out the lines between east and west. |
