Show MANY ATTEND WARD CHAPEL DEDICATION ! Hundreds of ward members and friends crowded the new Springville , Firt.t ward chapel Sunday to hear the formal dedication of the new building as given by President Heber J. Grant. I President Grant complimented the ward members in general in erecting so fine a building in so short a time. "Service," he said, "'brings happiness, and by work one Lives and prospers." Preceding the regular program President Grant talked to nearly 300 boys and git Is of the ward assembled as-sembled in the amusement hall. Bishop J. Emmett Bird was Ir. chaige. The meeting began by the congregation congre-gation singing "The Spirit of Gou Like a Fire is Burning." Patriarch Patri-arch O. B. Huntington offered the invocation, after which the choir led by C. H. Child with R. B. Weight at the organ, sang "The Lord Has 'Triumphed Gloriously." A. W. Cheirington, chairman of the building committee, gave a report. re-port. Amung the items he reported ! that, the first meeting to discuss plans for the erection of a new ward house was held May 12, 1929. and that the first cement for the buildine; was poured June 1, 1929. The building, with furnishings throughout, was completed and paid tor at a total cost of $47,500 within with-in one year, it was stated. Other numbers on the program were: instrumental trio, C. H. Child, j cello, Orman Weight, violin, Mary , Bird, piano; President G. R. May jock in a short talk compared the determination and enthusiasm uf the First ward with the early builders of the church. Don Carlos Car-los Young, thurch architect, spoke and John Tuckett, 96 years old, first otshon bf the First ward was present pres-ent as special honor guest. The ward mixed quartet composed of Frank Bjarnson, Harlan Boyer, Sarah Eiown and Myrtle Childs sang "Praise Ye the Lord," accompanied accom-panied at the piano by Lola Weight. Bishop Bird told of the splendid cooperation he . had received from the ward in the building of their new meeting house and how each organization had been willing to do their part. The choir sang as the closing number "A Wise and Glorious Glor-ious Zion." Myron A. Boyer offered of-fered the benediction. , |
