Show FUNERAL FOR EDNA SMITH HELDTOD AY Funeral services for Julia Edna Smith, l(i, daughter of Mr. and Mrs, Albert H. Smith, 95 West Second South street, who died Sunday morning from a seli'-inllicted gun shot wound, will be held in the Fourth ward chapel at 2 o'clock this afternoon. Bishop Peter Niel-son Niel-son of the Third ward will be in ;charge of the services. The body I may be viewed at the family resi-; resi-; dence prior to the services, j The tragic end of a promising I life followed a quarrel with her i sweetheart, Clarence "Specks" j Safford, investigating officers de- clared. Miss Smith was last seen alive by Clarence, who left the Smith home early Sunday morning. As he walked out of the house Edna asked him if he would ever return. He made no reply, he told the officers. ! The body was found in a rocking chair by Mrs. Smith about 7 o'clock. The girl was shot through the abdomen, ab-domen, the bullet coming out near the kidney and lodging in the ;floor. Physicians called on the case expressed the belief that the girl had lived but a short time. The automatic au-tomatic rifle, with one blank shell in it was found on the floor on the opposite side of the table. No Inquest Held No .inquest was held, according accord-ing to City Marshal Frank Celven-tra, Celven-tra, who, with Officer L. S. Hay-mond, Hay-mond, County Sheriff E. G. Dur-nell, Dur-nell, Deputy J. P. Gourlev and County Attorney I. E. Brockbank investigated. Their dec:o;on was that the girl died of a self-inflicted wound. , Miss Smith was born in Provo July 15, 1914. She was a junior at Springville high school, where she had a good record in her classes. Surviving are the parents, four brothers and sisters, Hastings, John, Carl and Lola Smith; grandparents. grand-parents. Mrs. Julia Smith, Roosevelt; Roose-velt; Mrs. Mary Ann Rodebeck, Provo. |
