Show S.F. STUDENTS SCOREBIG HIT. SPANISH FORK Music slu- dents of the Spanish Fork high I school made a decided hit in the I original opera, "The Jewel of Wo," ! which they composed, sang and acted. The opera was presented to larg-e and appreciative audiences Wednesday afternoon and evening :ind Thursday niiht at the Winona i 1 heater. This is the second effort of the j music students along this creative! line, the students of 1930-31 having composed the music for the opera "Kstialita." However that effort was spieud over two years time while 'Tim Jewel of Wo" has been composed since October 1931. K. J. Faux, music supervisor of the school, supervised and edited the music. Miss Faye Jensen, dramatic dra-matic art instructor supervised the drama. Stage settings were also the work of the students of the domestic art department of ihe school, directed by Miss Zina John- son. I More than 100 plots were suggested sug-gested for the opera and finally the I one offered by Miss Elma Spencer j was chosen and she was made student stu-dent director of the opera. Principal Prin-cipal Loren A. Anderson was the business manager of the opera, Miss Roberta Wilde was accompanist accom-panist and the high school orchestra or-chestra played the accompaniment. More than 100 students took part in the opera and appeared several times in choruses. Leading paits were cast as follows: Angela,, Lois 'Tippetts; Wo Hopi, Jack Davies; Julian Dorsee, Eldon Richardson; Fay Fung. Blanche Boyack; John, Blaine Johnson; Peter, Floyd Holm; Bill, Donald Evans; Sing-aling, Sing-aling, Roma Hansen ; Tingaling, Grace Eggertson; Mr. Sands, Lynn Searle; Mary, Alice Hawkins; father, Starr Brockbank; child, Audrey Pace; Oh Yes, Dewey Jameson. |
