Show CUT FAVORED BY ASSESSOR "The 'state tax commission is now considering a proposal from Utah county officials that the assessment as-sessment of farm lands here be lowered 10 per cent," said Robert L. Elliott, county assessor, in commenting com-menting on the plan of the state farm bureau to bring farm valuations valua-tions down 30 percent. Mr. Elliott said that although all the county officials here favor a 10 per cent lower valuation, the state tax commission has the final decision in the matter. Last year the county lowered the farm valuations val-uations only to have the state commission invoke a blanket raise of 10 per cent. Mr. Elliott was of the opinion that a 30 percent reduction of farm land property was too much in view of the other valuations. "The state tax commission has prepared data to show that farm valuations have been reduced 30 percent in the -nast ten vears." he saidi. "The records of Utah county coun-ty show that there have been re- j ductions made to conform with the rest of the state." Mr.: Elliott avowed his sympathy with the farmers in that his own experience has shown that the farms are not making enough to pay taxes as they are assessed. Citing Cit-ing his own case, he pointed out that it required part of his salary to pay the taxes on his farm. |
