Show CHILD WELFARE OBJECTIVE OF LOCALP. T. A. By LENA ROYLANCE President Parent-Teachers' Association In every community the chief interest of its citizens is the welfare wel-fare of its boys and girls. In order to cooperate in all details de-tails with the school through a sympathetic understanding of the school and its need, there are two factions of the community that must work together, the parents of the boys and girls and the teachers teach-ers who have them in their care more hours of the day than do thfe parents. In order to work together they must get together and meet on a common footing. j This need had been thought about and talked about for many years but nothing had been done until 1925 when a Parent-Teachers' association of the elementary, grades was organized at the WashV ingtc-n school with Mrs. Floyd Miner Min-er as president. For the next five years the elementary ele-mentary grades were all that were included, but in 1930 the high school was taken into the association, asso-ciation, making it the Parent-Teachers' Parent-Teachers' Association of Spring-viKle. Spring-viKle. The object qf the P. T. A. is to promote the child welfare in the home, school and community; to bring into close relationship the home and school; that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently intelligent-ly in training of the c'hild. To this end the Springville P. T. A. has been instrumental in getting some much needed improvements in our school buildings. During trfc summer vacation the P. T. A. has sponsored a supervised play-ground on the city park, and a story-telting hour, where once a week stories are told to the younger young-er children by a good story teller for one hour. In the Springville district there are 1,394 children between the ages of six and eighteen and if the parents par-ents of these boys and girls will work in' closer cooperation with the teacbters we can promise great things for our schools this year. Never before has there been such a need for mothers, fathers and the public generally to unite in a program for child weDfare. In the past our organization has had the loyal support of part of our parents, but to those whto have not given the support they could have given, we ask you to come out to our meetings and held us make 1933 a banner year for our P. T. A. The officers of the organization, are : President, Mrs. Rena Roy-lance; Roy-lance; first vice president, E. E. Knudsen; second vice president, Mrs. Patrick; secretary and treasurer, treas-urer, Miss Helen Palfreyman. |
