Show i Water System Insures Health Safeguards City Beginning in 1910 and serving the needs of few families the city waterworks system has been developed devel-oped until it now renders an inesti-mai'le inesti-mai'le service to all within tlte city, and many families living outside 01 the city limits. On November 30, 1909, the taxpayers tax-payers of Springville voted to bond the city for the purpose of installing install-ing a waterworks system. The original distribution system of wooden stave pipe was costly to the city; the earnings of the system sys-tem was not sufficient to pay t'ne cost cf maintenance, and just prior to the installation of our modern and up-to-date cast iron system the leakage was so great that many families were without water. In 1925 and 1926 the taxpayers again elected to bond the city for $145,000 covering Veil city completely with a erst iron distribution system sec- j r.nd to none. The s; rings at the mouth of Spring Creek canyon form the source of supply of the system, the city acquiring an equity in these springs throug'.i purchase of various var-ious rights and the replacement by other waters. The waters flowing directly nto pipes leading to the head-h'ouse and into the distribution distribu-tion system never seeing daylight until it ccmes from the taps, the possibility of contamination thus being reduced to a minimum. In fact at no time has any sickness been traceable to the water supply. For the protection of all users, samifes are sent to tlie slate board of health at regular intervals for examination as to possibility of contamination. A great advantage of n modern waterworks system is the added fire protection. To the property owners of Springville has came reduced re-duced cost of fire insurance with accessibility to the numerous fire t.vdrants :ind the abundance of water wa-ter available. The waterworks system being op-crated op-crated on a non-profit basis, assessments as-sessments being made only for the maintenance of ihe system, and payment of replacement waters, contributing only occasionally to lhe pnyment cf waterworks bonds. |
