Show PROJECT ROAD DESIGNATED A project road has been designated desig-nated and approved by the United States government from the overhead over-head bridge. In the mouth of Spanish Span-ish Fork canyon west to Spanish Fork City, which will connect with the state highway at the Spanish Fork turn, Henry II. Blood, member mem-ber of the Utah State Itoad Commission, Com-mission, told the Springville Kiwan-is Kiwan-is Club members atthe weekly luncheon lunch-eon Thursday evening. Mr. Blood came to Springville on invitation of the roads committee of the club to Investigate the needed improvements of the state road across Mapleton and also to speak at the luncheon program. In his address he soke of the increasing fatalities on the cement highways caused by automobiles, and urged that sentiment be created and traffic laws be inforced to-make the highways more safe. Withan an increase in the number num-ber of automobiles of 10 percent last year the fatalities increased 100 per cent, he declared. It is not and never will he safe again for pedestrians pedes-trians to walk upon the highways. A person is more safe walking on the railroads now-adays than on the cement pavement. Automobiles should never be stopped by the road side unless all four wheels are off from the pavement, he said. If pedestrians insist on walking on the pavements they should be forced forc-ed to carry a light and no vehicle should be allowed on the roads after dark without a light. On long stretches of roads through the rural districts there should be good sidewalks maintained, at the side of the road, to help induce people to stay off the roads. The speaker was introduced by Wilford W. Clyde, toastmaster of the evening. A cornet, cello and piano trio was played by Ralph Weight, Chauncy Childs and Mrs. Bell Crandall. t The community singing was led by Wm, N. Grooms. The attendance attend-ance prize was won by Ernest Strong, |
