Show BYRD LEAVES LOS ANGELES I.OS ANCtFJ.KS. Oct. 10. (TIP)--Commander TJi.-hard TZyid and s'v-eral s'v-eral units of his parly will leave hero t.'Hinv on the C. A. Larson on the first lap of a trip that proposes exploration of undiscovered land in the Antartic. The Larsen will clear Los Angeles harbor after 4 p. m. bound for Dundedin, New Zealand, where Eyrd will be reunited with other members of his expedition who sailed sail-ed from the eastern seaboard on the City of New York and the Eleanor Bowling, designated as the mother ship of the trip. In New Zealand Byrd will plan immediately to move on to the Bay of Whales and establish a base from which his expedition will work during the 18 months it will spend in the "down under." During all that time Byrd and his fellow workers will be engaged in mapping the uncharted regions of the South Pole and studying ice, wind and weather conditions. |
