Show Republicans of Utah Elect State Ticket Judge Elias Hansen of Provo Leads Republican Repub-lican Ticket With a Majority Of Over 2000 Votes. For the fifth consecutive time Utah has elected Senator Reed Smoot as its representative in the United States Senate. Although it is too early at this time to give the exact vote, the state headquarters of the two major parties agree that Senator Smoot was re-elected with a large majority which may well exceed 5000 votes. The Republican congressional delegation was elected with Senator Smoot, Congressman E. O. Leatherwood and Don Colton winning over their Democratic opponents, William R. Wallace, Jr., and Eph Bergeson. Judge Elias Hansen of Provo was named justice of the supreme court of Utah by polling a heavy vote over Judge George Christensen of Price. Returns reaching the state headquarters in Salt Lake City, indicate that with but one or two exceptions the entire state legislature will be Republican. Two or three of the southern counties named Democratic state senators and representatives, rep-resentatives, the returns show. Utah county gave Senator Smoot a majority of about 1083 votes, while Congressman Leatherwood was given 609 votes majority. Judge Hansen led the victorious ticket in Utah county, polling 2074 votes more than Judge Christenson. Senator LeRoy Dixon of Provo and Clifford E. Young of American Fork were elected over Royal J. Murdock of Provo and Lawrence Atwood of Pleasant Grove by majorities of 855 and 999 votes, respectively. All of the Republican candidates, for the state legislature legisla-ture were elected by majorities ranging from approximately 500 to 800 votes. |
