The child had been left in the bcdrooiu while the mother was working i" the kitchen. While the mother had left the house for a minute or two, tire broke out in the house and filled t he rooms with smoke. The child had crawled from the bedroom to the kitchen, from where it was rushed out into the ; open air by the frantic mother us j she saw the smoke pouring from the ' house. ; It is believed that had the mother I not discovered the fire and rushed ' into the house as quickly as she did, ; the child would have died from suf. focation. The boy was sick most of !the morning as a result of his nar-f nar-f low escape, but will not have any J ill effects from his experience. ! 1 Defective Flue ! j The fire is believed to have been j caused by a defective flue overheated overheat-ed by n kitchen stove. The damages are estimated by Fire Chief Reed Boslmrd at about $700, covered by $100 insurance. The fire happened about 8 :30 o'clock this morning. Mrs. Maxfield I had just stepped into the home of A. F. A cord, who owns the house in which the Maxfields live. While talking, Mrs. Acord noticed smoke pouring from the roof of the house and from the windows and doors. ; according to the report given by! Chief lioshard. Frantically Mrs. J Maxfield rushed into the house to get her little son whom she found on the kitchen floor. When the fire department arrived, arriv-ed, the entire rear part of the house was ablaze. Two rooms, the pantry and a closet were destroyed by the fire. Tart of the damages were j caused by the water. |
