Show DEMOCRATS WIN CONTROL OF COUNTY COMMISSION; REPUBLICANS PREDOMINATE Democrats Elect A. 0. Smoot and J. W. Gill-man Gill-man Commissioners and Inez Jessee Recorder; Taylor Wins Race Although the Republican state ticket carried Utah county by a large majority, the Democrats succeeded in electing two county commissioners and the county recorder. A. 0. Smoot, Democratic present county commissioner, defeated W. 0. Creer'of Provo for the two year term by 509 votes. The race between Martin S. Christiansen of Pleasant Grove and James W. Gillman of Orem for the four-year term commissioner was the closest in the election. Gillman won out, according to present tabulation, with 31 votes. While the present tabulation includes the votes cast in all of the 67 districts of the county with the exception of Clinton, it is not believed the missing district would alter the standing of 'he two candidates materially. Democratic headiiuarters claimed substantial lead for Mr. Naylor. At one time the rumor spread thnt Naylor wns leading with over 1(XX votes. Towards morning ns the re turns from the various districts came in. it was evident thnt Boyd was in the lead with several hundred hun-dred votes. This lead wns mater inlv reduced when Springville gnvc Nnylor henvy majorities. The vote without thnt of Clinton gives Slier iff Boyd a lead of lid over Naylor The entire state legislative ticket wns elected by the Democrats, Le Roy Dixon received the heaviest vote, with Mrs. Achsa Pnxman nnd Clifford 10. Inez .lessee, Democrntic present county recorder, was returned to office by rolling up n majority of '70 votes over Miss Priscilla Chris-lenson Chris-lenson of Snlem. Miss .lessee polled poll-ed 721G votes, ns compared with 074Ci for Miss Christenson. Next to the race for the four-yenr four-yenr commissioner term, that for the treasurership was the most thrilling. The Republican candidate. candid-ate. John C. Taylor, of Payson. nosed out Earl S. Greenwood, Democrat, Demo-crat, with only 57 votes.
