Show The Modern Girl The head of Washington's women police in a recent interview asserted that the morals of the modern girl are rapidly going from bad to worse. She cited conditions that she, as a policewoman, has discovered, as corroboration of her statement. Eut are they, really? There is greater freedom than ever before, certainly. And undoubtedly there are cases where girls run afoul of the police. Undoubtedly, too, the modern girl, in her new freedom, free-dom, does many things .that would have shocked the public even a decade ago. But, examining them thoroughly, are they intrinsically wrong, or, at least any more so than many things that were done with less openness by her sister of two or three decades ago? There are many things in modern mod-ern lite of youth that are deplorable and should bo corrected. Rut. considering the natural tendency to glorify anything that belongs to "good old days," perhaps we overlook, in looking back upon them, many things at that time, too, that needed correcting. But the average girl of today is probably a whole lot be! etr in many ways than were those in the days of more seclusion. She is better equipped to face the world and take her own part ; better equipped to be a good wife to some man or to go it alone, which ever is to be her part ; belter equipped to enjoy life and make it have the most meaning for her. She meets you on an equal footing; she's candid, she's self reliant. All in all, perhaps the problem she represents is much the mimic as that presented by the girl of the past. Human nature is pretty much the same, as the ages pass, the chief difference being in her outward trappings. |
