Show MAIN CAFE DESTROYED BYFLAMES Fire believed to have originated from hot coals falling from the kitchen range destroyed the Main Cafe, 111 West Center street, at an early hour Saturday morning. F. L. Martin, proprietor, left the cafe about 11 :30 o'clock Friday night for his rooms ?n the Belmont apartments, and it was not until 3:15 o'clock Saturday morning that the fire was discovered. At that time some young people who were passing saw the entire building in flames and turned in the alarm. The loss is estimated at upwards of .$3000 to the building, which was completely destroyed and furniture and fixtures. Both the building nnd tlie fixtures were partly covered by insurance. About u month ago Mr. Martin, who bad been in the restauraunt business at Snlina for the past five years, purchased the business from Mrs. Maine Emery, and reports that he bad done a good business during bis ownership of the cafe. The building was owned by John T. Taylor and Dr. David Westwood, and was one of the old land marks of the city, having been one of the first building erected on Center street. While definite plans have not been made, Mr. Taylor expresses the belief that a new building will lie erected there within the near future. |
