Show SUSPICIOUS TRIO ARRESTED BY SHERIFF'S FORCES NEAR SPRINGVILLE RAILWAY YARDS With the arrest Wednesday afternoon after-noon of three men whose names were given as Glenn Hawkins, 35, Tom Moore, ,33, and George Williams, Wil-liams, 30, members of the local sheriff's office feel certain that they have picked up a trio of highwaymen highway-men who, when, identified, will be much in demand by officers in various var-ious sections. This opinion is bnsed on the fact that when nrrested by Deputy Sheriffs B. F. Roper nud Elias Gee in the "jungles" at Springville, the transients had in their possession a full kit of burglar's tools Including Includ-ing a large variety of hardened steel chisels, punches, several dozen new steel hack saw blades, back saws, a dozen pocket knives and innumerable in-numerable other items handy in the craft of picking locks and blowing safes. Added to these was a 30-30 rifle with plenty of cartridges. The three men who were traveling in an Overland touring car bearing California license No. 5G2-S9S, were unable to give any comprehensive account of their travels, according to the officers. When taken into custody Moore and Williams declared de-clared that they were not associated with Hawkins, who had the car in bis charge. The arrest Is the result of watchfulness watch-fulness on the part of members of the local sheriff's office and marshal Henry Clark of Springville, who were notified Wednesday by the officers of-ficers of Sanpete county that John Keller's store at Manti had been burglarized Tuesday night and 50 suits of men's clothing, a large number num-ber of sweaters and other wearing apparel was taken from the store. While none of this merchandise was found In the possession of the three suspects, the local officers feel certain cer-tain that they are bad characters. They will be held in the Utah county jail pending a thorough investigation in-vestigation as to the ownership of the car in their possession, and will be given an opportunity to give an account of their operations. The three men had upwards of $75 on them when arrested. Sheriff J. D. Boyd states that their fingerprints will be taken before be-fore they are released. Chief Criminal Deputy Otto Birk and Other members of the force went to Springville again this morning morn-ing to make further investigation 'of the case. |
