Show KIWANIS CLUB VOTES TO AID ART EXHIBIT "Wayne Johnson. A. J. Jacobsen and Principal E. E. Kuudsen of the Springville High School faculty, and members of the art committee, addressed the Springville Kiwanis club at the weekly luncheon Thursday Thurs-day evening on matters xrtaiuing to the financing of the annual national na-tional art exhibit which is held annually at the Springville high school art gallery during the mouth of April. According to facts submitted by the speakers, it will cost $131X1 this year to finance the exhibit. . Mr. Johnson emphasized the care now being taken to keep pictures out of the gallery except those of the - very highest standard. He stated that this year there will be two prizes given; one of $500 for the best picture and one of $150 for the best picture by a Utah artist. 'The value of a picture is the ideal that it contains," declared Mr. Jacobsen. "These pictures In our art gallery are feeding the souls of lour boys and girls that come in 'contact with them. There is a hunger hun-ger in the soul of every individual for the beautiful. You cannot measure meas-ure the value of the art gallery in dollars and cents. It is measured in the character building and the Influence it has on the lives of our boys and girls." Mr. Knudsen declared that he is beginning to imbibe the art spirit and the longer he is here, the more the spirit grows. He stated that a number of pictures had already arrived ar-rived for the exhibit nnd that although al-though it was decided not to open them until they were ready to hang them on the wall, that he, with other members of the committee, could not resist the temptation to oien the crates and get a look at them. A vote carried unanimously that the Kiwanis club donate $100 in cash or more, and lend its support to help raise the balance needed, j Vice President Nelson Real was master of ceremonies and George! Russell, also a member of the school I faculty, was totistmaster. Miss Leda Thompson, of the music mu-sic department of the Brigham Young University, gave two vocal solos. Miss Jane Alleman gave a piano solo, and the girls' chorus of the high school, under the direction of J. K. Booth, gave two selections. Harold Alleman was re-instated a member of the club. The attendance attend-ance prize, which was a beautiful picture, was won by Harry Reynolds. |
