The Foundation study shows that the relative state and local lo-cal tax burden in the Western States was somewhat higher than in other parts of the na- , -tion. Following are percentages f of personal income going for state and local taxes in the other Mountain States: Ari- I zona 11.75, Colorado ', j 11.52 .Idaho 11.82, Montana Mon-tana 12.72, New Mexico 10.85, Nevada 11.39, and Wyoming 11.14. , j Utah has 11th highest tax paying burden Utah had the eleventh highest high-est state and local tax burden in the nation during 1962, according ac-cording to a report just prepared pre-pared by Utah Foundation, the private tax research group. This latest complication and analysis of state and local taxes tax-es by the Utah Foundation staff shows that Utahns paid a total of $218.2 million in state and local taxes during the 1962 fiscal year. This sum was equal to 11.85 of the total personal income received by all residents of the state during the preceeding calendar year. The relative state and local tax burden was equal to 10.70 per cent of personal income in the nation and 11.63 per cent in eight Mountain States. Foundation analysts observe, however, that although the relative rel-ative state and local tax burden bur-den in Utah (as measured by personal income) was 11 per cent above the U. S. averasre last year, it was 20 per cent above the national average ten years earlier. In 1952, state and local taxes in Utah were equal to 10.04 per cent of personal per-sonal income payments, compared com-pared with 8.38 per cent fori the entire nation.
