I ij If the present technological it change continues, the nation's ki needed farm output by 1975 8 could be produced with 25 to Ijj 30 per cent less labor, on a 5 ki per cent to 10 per cent less ? land. i Washington had the nation's S best school attendance in the' 5 1962-6- 3 year. Average absence per pupil was 10.5 days. I Surplus food valued at $1, 526,000,000 was sent overseas by the government' last year. Artesian wells 1 must be closed ! The State Engineer Wayne jj D. Criddle, has proclaimed the j closing of wells diverting wa- - jj ter from underground sources j beginning with December 1, jj and ending April 1, 1964, as provided by law. All persons ! owning, or having .control of, j any artesian or pump well, or wells, in this State are required ! to close, by plug, cap, valve, or ! other mechanical device or by ! repairs, all wells except those providing water for beneficial use. Beneficial use during the above period does not include irrigation. It is also provided j that modification of said OR-- ; DER may be granted upon showing to the State Engineer that a compliance therewith will cause partial or complete failure of the well, according to Dennis Funk, County Ex-tension Agent. The closing season of under-ground water has been pro-claimed in the interest of con-serving the underground water supply and to provide a maxi-mum quanity for the next year's use. As a result of last year's CLOSING ORDER there was made available during the past season additional water which materially helped to ma-ture crops. Strict obedience to this CLOSING ORDER will further increase the supply. Disregard of the CLOSING ORDER is a misdemeanor and, if necessary, the State Engi-neer will bring action in the district court to enforce the law.
