Springville is a city of 8,000 population. It is particularly noted for its famous Art Exhibit and road-buildi- contractors. Springville has a greater j j concentration of these contractors than any other city in the United States. Its chief : 1 industry consists of a steel plant, cast iron plant, creosote plant, powder plant, ex- - I tensive farming and fruit growing, stock raising and lamb feeding. A State Fish i and Game farm is located in Springville as is a Federal Hatchery. The city has sev- - j eral parks and recreation areas. : Subscription In Advance, Per Year $4.50; Per Copy 10c : Mapletonfire burns bailed straw, boat years, a barf baled straw burned t " ground. This is sure one of the sparks we need to continue to grow industrially, as well as civicly. The buildings are beautiful, and I am particularly pleased with the means of paying for them. This will come from the y2 of 1 sales tax which is returned to the city. We have been promised that the taxes will not be raised as a means for raising the funds to pay for this bond. From informa-tion I can see no reason why they should have to. I would like to compliment the com-mittee which has worked so hard to bring this fine build-ing program to Springville. May I go on record as sup-porting the new Civic Center, on the bond election, and urge the construction of this as soon as practical. Chamber of Commerce (Signed) Mays W. Anderson Edgel M. Oldroyd J. Group favors civic center To the Editor: I am writing in view of the coming bond election for the new Civic Center for the city of Springville. . . For the past many years this city in which we live has been the most progressive in our area. In comparison with our neighbors, we have looked forward with the construction of our roads, sidewalks, and the very housekeeping of our yards in this city, has been and inspiration for others to look at. Now we have a new issue coming to our attention, the building of a new civic center in our park, and the fire halls, ond library. It seems to me the leaders of our community have done a great deal of research and looking to the future in i " BUSINESS DIRECTORY Expert Eye Csa by Dr. G. H. Visitors like people of Utah Stopping a day or so ago at the City Drug store in Springville to purchase a cam-era to replace one they had lost, Mr. and Mrs. Al Coffman, Fort Bragg, Claif., Box 109, were lavish in their praise of Utah and the people here. They had been guests of Mr. and Mrs. Murrell Hackenbury in American Fork and said they found people throughout the state, friendly and kind. Clerks in the stores they vis-ited were especially courteous, they reported. The visitors said they en-joyed the many attractions in Salt Lake City during this, their first trip to the state. The High Uinta fisheries survey crew of the Depart-ment reports that many of the lakes in the Uinta county are still and that trail access to many lakes is still blocked by heavy drifts. |
