Show I Firemen busy during hot, dry weather Springville firemen had a busy day Monday, when they answered a total of five alarms, according to Chief Reed Averett. All five fires were started in dry grass. The first alarm sounded at 3:30 a.m., for a grass fire across from the Armory. At 12:30 p.m., a run was made to a grass fire on Buckley Ave.; and at 4:15 p.m., near the A. H. Mortensen shops, Second North, Third West. At 8:30 p.m. the department was called to a. fire started by sparks from the train falling into the dry grass on the highway high-way near 12th South. Firemen barely had time to return to the station to refill the tanks, when the siren again called them to a grass, fire on Canyon Ave. This blaze was presumably started from a cigarette thrown from a car. Chief Averett cautions citizens citi-zens against dropping matches, match-es, or other items which might start a fire during the hot dry season. No greatness exists unless it is based upon principle and not upon profits. It is not always the fruit that reaches the market first that is the best fruit. |
