Show Art visitor from Iceland amazed . at Springville High School show A noted visitor to the Art Gallery Thursday, was Mrs. Sigridur S. Thorlacius of Reykjavik, Rey-kjavik, Iceland, who was on a 4-day tour of Utah while traveling in America as participant parti-cipant in the Leaders Program of the office of Cultural Exchange Ex-change of the US State Department. De-partment. She was interested in care and training of retarded children, child-ren, care of the aged, mar riage counceling, women's publications pub-lications and the American Indians. In-dians. Definately impressed with the collection of art at the high school gallery, Mrs. Thorlacius expressed surprise that a city the size of Springville Spring-ville could have such an exhibit. ex-hibit. . While in Springville, the visitor vis-itor was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. John Y. Eearnson, . who visited in her native land recently re-cently and who have been hosts to many people from Iceland. She said that until about five years ago, there was no problem for the care of mentally men-tally retarded children in Iceland. Ice-land. Then ""the government passed a law that the tax from soft drinks would go toward to-ward a training program and she became a member of the committee to work on the program. pro-gram. She was also a member of a similar committee to study facilities for the aged. She planned to visit the Pri- m a r y Children's Hospital, Shriners Hospital and the American Am-erican Fork Training School in Utah. Before visiting the art, the Bearnsons took Mrs. Thorlacius Thorlac-ius on a tour of Spanish "Fork and the monument erected in that city in memory of the pioneers pi-oneers who settled in Spanish Fork from Iceland. A housewife and homemaker, the visitor is a reporter on a daily newspaper and assistant editor for a quarterly magazine, maga-zine, "The Housewife."
