Show . .v y V ' .; 1 v 11 - Karl It. Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Albert H. Smith, 136 East 2nd North, receives the Commendable Service award, signed by Secretary of State Dean Rusk, from the American Ambassador Winthrop G. Brofn, at Vientieiie Laos. The award given was in recognition of outstanding accomplishment, loyalty and devotion to service of the Dept. of State. Accompanying the award, was a letter from the embassy commending Mr. Smith for his devotion to duty while the office in which he worked and his home were under artillery or small arms fire in the battle of Vietiame. It said among other things, that when it came time to destroy classified material, Mr. Smith, completed the task kneeling on the floor of the file room, while bullets and shrapnel were flying through the windows. Mr. Smith has been employed with the government at Vien-tiame, Vien-tiame, three years this summer. |
