Thorlacius of Rey-kjavik, Iceland, who was on a tour of Utah while traveling in America as parti-cipant in the Leaders Program of the office of Cultural Ex-change of the US State De-partment. She was interested in care and training of retarded child-ren, care of the aged, mar riage counceling, women's pub-lications and the American In-dians. Definately impressed with the collection of art at the high school gallery, Mrs. Thorlacius expressed surprise that a city the size of Spring-ville could have such an ex-hibit. While in Springville, the vis-itor was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. John Y. Eearnson, who visited in her native land re-cently and who have been hosts to many people from Iceland. She said that until about five years ago, there was no problem for the care of men-tally retarded children in Ice-land. Then ""the government passed a law that the tax from soft drinks would go to-ward a training program and she became a member of the committee to work on the pro-gram. She was also a member of a similar committee to study facilities for the aged. She planned to visit the Pri- - m a r y Children's Hospital, Shriners Hospital and the Am-erican Fork Training School in Utah. Before visiting the art, the Bearnsons took Mrs. Thorlac-ius on a tour of Spanish "Fork and the monument erected in that city in memory of the pi-oneers who settled in Spanish Fork from Iceland. A housewife and homemaker, the visitor is a reporter on a daily newspaper and assistant editor for a quarterly maga-zine, "The Housewife." She is also active in civic, political and womens' club affairs. "Before you borrow money from a friend, decide which you need more." Fred W. Grown, Edgewater (N. J.)
