O . . of Utah, the Social fluents Book review enjoyed by Jeune Mere group Jeune Mere club members were guests of Mrs. Fay Hay-mon- d at a meeting Wednesday evening of last week. Highlighting the program was the review of the book, "Faith and My Friends," by Marcus Bach, given by Mary Schwartz. In summarizing the things he gained from the re-ligions he had studied, the author left the thought that in times when even friends cannot help one over the rough spots, he can turn to religion. Mr. and Mrs. Ellis Bird, ac-companied by Mr. and Mrs. Ed Dunn have returned from a va-cation and business trip to Mexicali, Mex. They traveled by way of Boulder City and Yuma Ariz., encountering a terrific dust storm enroute home which gave them consid-erable car trouble. Mrs. Agnes Rowland is re-ceiving treatment at an Ogden hospital, where she will be confined for several weeks. She would appreciate hearing from friends, her address being 700 Harrison Blvd., Ogden, Utah. Pfc. Gene E. Danielson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Axel Daniel-so- n, is home on a 30-da- y leave In a short business meeting conducted by President Marie Whiting, announcement was made of the Arts Festival, the tentative date for which has been set on March 12; also of the mock court conducted by Judge Monroe Paxman to be March 4 in Provo; of the dist-rict convention at Nephi April 9 and the Art Tea date April 16. The club voted to assist with CARE funds and also with the Youth Forest conservation pro-ject. A tray luncheon was served by the hostess and the project prize went to Mrs. Ida Lewis. S. officer Mrs. Howard Allan was re-cently sustained secretary ir the Second ward Relief Society after spending the past 13 months in Korea. Six months of the time was spent at the R and R center at Seol. He will leave February 25, to re-port at Fort Monmouth, N. J. Mrs. J. C. Nielson has re-turned to her home after spending a week at the Utah Valley Hospital for treatment. The Ben-son- s, who have been vacation-ing in the Valley of the Sun since Jan. 26, expect to return xto their-- Utah home March 1. Musettes present delightful program The Springville Musettes gave a delightful concert be-fore some 200 guests, including federated club members and a group from Heber Wednes-day evening of last week, at the Art Building. Mrs. Alberta Hoover was director and Mrs. Oleah Sargent and Mrs. Elaine Puckett, accompanists. Highlighting the program of patriotic, light opera and pop-ular numbers by the choral group were solos by Beth Jen-sen, Vera Zobell, LaVere Tip- - petts and Francis Holley; also duets by Wesley Hoover and Judy Woodward; trio, Norma Boyer, Mary Giles and Anita Childs and instrumental selec-tions by Lee Condie, Kent Huff and Louise Schouten; Carolyn C. Hermansen, Geor-gia Schaeffer and Elaine Raw-l- e. Mrs. Jay Madsen and Mrs. R. L. Wilson were the narra-tors and Afton Palfreyman gave a reading. Mrs. Ray Lofgran, president of the Federated Club Council, introduced the choral group and response was made by Mrs. Jean Ivory, Musette presi-dent. Prayers were by Mrs. Mae Huntington and Mrs. Jean Fox. Mrs. Roy F. Anderson gave the collect and the colors were advanced by the Eighth ward scouts. At the close of the program, refreshments were served by hostesses representing the var-ious federated clubs. - Mrs. Oliver Dulton returned Saturday from Rochester, N. Y., where she visited her son David Dalton, his wife ' and baby daughter, and attended the concert in which David ap-peared with the Eastman-Rochest- er orchestra. She was in Rochester two weeks and dur-ing the time visited the col-lege in which David is enrolled and also attended a Philhar-monic concert and performance by the Chicago Opera Co. She spent a week in Atlantic, N. J., the guest of her brother-in-la- Dr. S. Eugene Dalton and wife and saw many places of inter-est in the area. She made the trip to and from the East by plane. - |
