Wilson, and Frank Memory from the People's Party, 1 Calvin Packard gained the favor of Springville Spring-ville voters for the positions of 4-year councilmen, at the city election Tuesday. At Mapleton, party favorites were evenly divided with one elected from each. Ray Whiting Whit-ing was named from the Progressive Pro-gressive party; Frank Johnson from the Citizens and Merrill Halverson from the Peoples. Voting for all candidates was close especially in the Springville race between Theron Ther-on S. Hall of the Independents and Frank Memory on the Peoples Peo-ples which showed a margin of 29 votes over the entire precinct. pre-cinct. Calvin Packard was high vote getter of all candidates chalking up a total of 1177 votes. Next came R. L. Wilson who received a total of 988 votes and the third to be elected elec-ted was Frank G. Memory with 854. Voting was comparatively light in most districts, some reporting just a few more than half of those eligible. Others especially those in which candidates can-didates lived, exhibited more interest. The new city councilmen will take office January 1, for a 4-year term, succeeding Harold Har-old Whiting, who has served as a city councilman the past ten years and who chose not to run again; also Grant Nielson Niel-son and Bert Strong, both of whom declined to run for office. of-fice. The election results were close at Mapleton, Frank Johnson John-son gaining just two more vot es over John Perry to place him in the council post over Mr. Perry. There was a tie vote on Arthur Harmer and Douglas Bills, each receiving 87 votes and Ross Hall gained six votes over John Bleggi's 102. |
