Center St., Springville is aboard the heavy cruiser USS Columbus, serving with the U. S. First (Fleet off the coast of California. Califor-nia. Ships of the Fleet are undergoing under-going advanced training for future fu-ture development to the Far East. Western Pacific (FHTNC) Dean T. Perkins, chief machinist's mach-inist's mate, USN, son of Mr. and Mrs. Washington D. Perkins Per-kins of 353 E. Sixth South, Springvllie and husband of the former Miss Nellie E. Russel of Denver, Colo., is serving aboard the destroyer USS Eversole operating in the Lt. Phillip M. Haymond, who recently qualified in radio instrument flight at the base in Foley, Ala., is taking advanced ad-vanced training in multi-en-gined aircraft at Hutchinson, Kansas. Western Pacific as a unit of the U. S. Seventh Fleet. Enroute to duty with the Fleet, the Eversole made visits to Pear Harbor and Pago Pago before reaching the "Land Down Under," Australia, the latter part of December. While visiting the ports of Melbourne, Perth, Fremantle and Darwin, the Eversole's crew was presented with parties, par-ties, dances, picnics and invitations invi-tations into the Australian's homes. During their five-day stay in Melbourne the crew gave a party for the local orphans or-phans and crowned a Sydney girl as Miss Destroyer Division 31, of which the Eversole is a unit. After three weeks at memorable memor-able Australia, the destroyer continued her cruise to Subic Bay, P. I., and to Yokosuka, Japan where she joined the Fleet. Marine Second Lieutenant Phillip M. Haymond, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Haymond of this city, qualified in' radio instrument flight at the Barin Field Naval Auxiliary Air Station Sta-tion at Foley, Ala., recently according to report from the base. Lt. Haymond is presently undergoing un-dergoing advanced flight training train-ing in multi-engined aircraft at the Naval Air Station at Hutchinson, Kansas.
