The president today sent to the senate the nomination of Isaac Blair Evans to be United States attorney for the district of Utah, to succeed suc-ceed W. W. Ray, resigned, in accordance w ith the recommendation made recently j Dy united states Senator W. H. King. The nomination was referred to the committee on judiciary, and Senator King will ask for prompt action so that the nomination can be confirmed allowing Evans to take charge of the office. The judiciary committee regularly meets Monday, Mon-day, but if there is a chance to hold a special session Senator King will ask for a favorable report this week. Confirmation Confirma-tion of Evans by the middle of next week is considered a certainty. Mr. Evans has been assistant district attorney to Mr. Ray for the past year. He is a Utah man, born in Ogden, March 22, 18S3, and obtained his public school education there. He later entered Harvard Har-vard and was graduated there. For five years he was instructor of law at the University of LTtah. Since the arrival a week ago of an or-: or-: der relieving Mr. Ray from the position, Mr. Evans has been acting district attorney. attor-ney. Mr. Ray is now on a vacation, and will be permanently relieved from his post December 31. |
