Show CADOOCK PROVES IE ISSTiLUiTClIP Easily Beats Sam Chapham; Needs Work to Regain Old-time Form. BY WALTER ECKER&OLL. (Chicago Tribune Special Service.) CHICAGO, Dec. .18. Earl Caddock, world's wrestling champion, successfully defended his title tonight in the main bout of the wrestling show staged by the Eleventh infantry, I. N. G., at the Second Sec-ond Regiment armory, by defeating Sam Clapham, the English grappler, in straight falls. Caddock, won the first fall In 21:27 with his favorite hold, head-scissors and wrist lock, and he took the second bout in 7:08 with a body scissors and wrist lock. The bout showed plainly that Caddock needs more work to be able successfully to defend his title against the best wrestlers wres-tlers in the world. The champion did not appear to be as fast and shifty as when he appeared in Chicago two years ago. but he has not forgotten any of the fine points of the game which have made him one of the greatest mat artists of recent years. Clapham, although willing and earnest, was no match for the title holder. Caddock Cad-dock was even content to permit the Englishman En-glishman to get behind in 'the first two minutes of the first fall. He was not down long, however, as he regained his feet with apparent ease when Clapham tried to secure a toe-hold. |
