Show jSEES NO THREAT OF 0ICTJT1IP Kaiserism Done For, Ger-! Ger-! man Minister of Defense Noske Says. By GEORGE RENWICK. (New York Times Cable, Copyright.) WEIMAR, June 10 (delayed). The Majority Ma-jority Socialist party selected Weimar for tho place of meeting of its first annual an-nual conference under the new regime. It was a well-dressed assembly, representing repre-senting 1,250,000 Socialists, which gathered gath-ered in the National theater here this afternoon. Today's business was almcst entirely of a formal nature, but signs were not wanting that storms might develop de-velop during the next sitting. . In conversation this afternoon with Herr Noske, minister of defense, he told me that he merely laughed at all talk of a military dictatorship and of a revival of militarism. "Do you think," he asked, "that the soldiers will fight to restore the kaiser to the throne, or to make a dictator out of Ludcndorff or " (this with a smile) "even me? At first some officers did try to use the army for their own purposes, but the men have now to be handled otherwise than was the case bctore the revolution. "I make a. point of going about and addressing the army on political questions ques-tions In the presence of the officers I try to make it a Socialist army, so that It will never again be used against bo-ciallsts. bo-ciallsts. I think the results of this have been good." As to the situation In the east, Noske said ho viewed matters- not without alarm Eighty thousand refugees from poen mostlv German colonists, were protesting that they would not accept unv government agreement to peace terms regarding east Germany. He W warned the people there repeatedly agun-t anv local iresponsiblo action, but he couid not guarantee that they would not break loose, nor did he think that the militarists would be tempted by any adventure in the east. The armv was becoming more reliable and the promotion of noncommissioned officers was bringing about the creation of an officers' corps quite un.lke that which existed under tho old regime, he declared. |
