Show John E. Kellerd to Open Engagement at Salt Lake Theater Tonight With Presentation of "Hamlet." Hp O students and lovers of dramatic art, Lhe engagement of the eminent actor, John K. Kellerd. and his supporting company com-pany is an event of more .han ordinary interest, and the opening tonight at the Salt Lake theater promises to be one of the bright events of the theatrical season. The offering tonight will be "Hamlet," the role Mr. Kellerd played for one hundred hun-dred and two consecutive nights in New York. He Is the only actor who has won that distinction. Tomorrow night, "The Merchant of Venice' will be presented ; Saturday matinee he will present "Julius Caesar," largely because this play is now being studied in the Salt Lake schools, and the engagement will close Saturday evening with "Macbeth." Kellerd believes in expressing the real intent of the author, and does not slavishly slavish-ly follow precedent, firm in the belief that, having the correct conception of the role, he does not need the theatrical tricks resorted to by many stars. His readings are those of a man of thought, and. therefore, agreeable, sane and acceptable. ac-ceptable. His voice is of excellent quality, qual-ity, of remarkable range, and his enunciation enun-ciation distinct. i |
