WITH John Borich, the confessed slaver, under arrest, the murder of Mrs. Velma Adkins, alias Velma Green, of Twin Falls, Ida., is a greater mystery, in some respects re-spects than when 'he body of tbo murdered mur-dered woman was found on the Lincoln Lin-coln highway near the south limits of the town of Tooele Tuesday night. Admitting that the marks of strangulation strangu-lation on the woman 's throat were made bv his hands, Borich, an Austrian, 33 vears of age. insists that he was acting act-ing uud.T the directions of a man by -he name of John Green, who, he says, promised him a lot of money as his share of insurance to be collected on the life of Mrs. Adkins if he followed instructions. He insists that Green gave him tl? railroad tickets with i which he and Mrs. Adkins went to Tooele, Too-ele, that Green met t'-:n again on the it ation piatf..rm at Tooele and gave instructions for the siaying, gave him a drink of some f i-'ry liquor out of a (Continued on Page SColumn 1.) Borieh went by the name of Green, when ho and Mrs. Adkins called upon Mrs. C. S. Davis, sister of the murdered mur-dered woman, nt 51S Gale avenue, this city, about six weeks ago. He also registered reg-istered as John Green at tho -Wellington hotel, whene he and Mrs. Adkins took a room last Saturday night, and he was identified last night by William Bowman of the Equitable Life Insurance Insur-ance company as the man who appeared at tho company's office in the Boston building on July 2t), this year, as John Green, at which time an insurance policy pol-icy for $1000 was takon out by the two for Mrs. Adkius as Mrs. Green. Borich admits that he assumed the name of Green, yet he denies that he is the real Green, insisting that it was by instruction of the other man that he assumed the name. He even insists that he delivered the life insurance policy to the other man, though ho confesses con-fesses that he killed Mrs. Adkins with the understanding that he was to get part of the insurance money. That he is the John Borich who is defendant in a divorce action now pending pend-ing in the third district court, Mrs. Jennie Borich being the plaintiff, was admitted by Borich yesterday. He said, however, that his wife knew nothing of his associations with either Green or Mrs. Adkins. Her complaint charges non-support. Brought to Salt Lake. Borich tva3 brought to Salt Lako yesterday by Sheriff D. M. Adamson of Tooele county and II. H. John?on. proprietor pro-prietor of the Strnnd moving picture theater at Tooele. Mr. Johnson one of the first persons whose suspicions Borieh aroused. Th? man appeared at the theater shortly after the killing and asked Mr. Johnson if he had s en Vt-1-ma. Since Borich was a ?tranr-rr, the question seemed odd to Mr. Johnson, who told him to look in the thoit'ir. iSineo both Borieh and Mrs. Adkins were stranpers in Tooele, the question helped to fix suspicion upon Borich when Sheriff Adam son beean invest ica ting after the body was found abou i ;'.') o'clock Tuesday nicht bv Koss G:llepV and KImer England, two voting n.en of Tooele, at the time on thrir way home from Stockton. 1 Endeavors to gt into tphne communication com-munication last riicht with Kred Adkins, Ad-kins, husband of the murdered woman, resuilc-d in a conversation bftw-fu h-:r brother-in-law, Mr. Davis, nf this ri'.y, and Ered Wood, hr -r'iv.h"r. !
