At the recent annual meeting of the American Society of Mechanical ICngineers it was reported that a kerosene motor capable of running an auto mo Idle would be successful if properly designed. As a matter of fact, even at the present pres-ent time kerosene is being usel as a motor mo-tor fuel to drive an increasingly large number of farm tractors and engines. And even in the exclusive sphere of high prices, where gasoline has heretofore here-tofore reigned supreme, kerosene is becoming be-coming a notable figure. In Alabama it is reported that the maximum price for kerosene is 21 cents a gallon, while the tank wagon price of gasoline is 25 H cents. This, of course, is an Isolated example, ex-ample, but the rapid advance In the price of kerosene to the range around 16 cents a gallon throughout the country reflects the wide demam! for it. The remarkableness of the present price stands more glaringly revealed when it is contrasted with a price of 3 cents a gallon five years ago, and when it Is noted that d tiring the war its average price was around 9 cents. The past week kerosene prices have been advanced one cent a gallon (wholesale) (whole-sale) in Pennsylvania find 'Delaware, and one-half a cent a gallon in Colorado, Montana, Xew Mexico and Wyoming. A prominent refiner has predicted this week that kerosene prices are due for a further advance as a result of the recent increases in crude oil prices. The meteoric rise of kesosene as an important im-portant source of increased earnings to the oil-producing companies affords another an-other unanswerable reason for the now generally accepted statement that an era of big prosperity lies before the oil pro-I pro-I ducers of America.
