Charles Deru. who was arrested at 10:oU o'clock this morning at 168 Twenty-third Ktreet, at whoso home tho still, gallons gal-lons of wine and live gallons 0! corn whisky were seized, was tai.cn before Judge A. W. Agee in tlio 11. strict court at 3:30 o'clock this aflornon, upon the charge of having liquor in h'.s possession, the complaint being issued by county Attorney Joseph B. Bates. Deru pleaded Kuilty to the charge and the court set the date for the passing of sentence upon December 23 at 10 a. 111. Deru s hail was fixed at $150, which was furnished. fur-nished. W illie Charles Deru was In court, the sheriff and deputies went to the home of Joseph Deru, in f.urch creek, where they arrested the older brother and seized sixty gallons of wine. His ball was fixed by Judge Ageo at $.u0. 1 e failed to furnish sureties and was held in Jail. . For some time Sheriff Teterson and deputies have been searching for the source of supply for the corn whisky and wine which has been known to exist.. Their efforts were fruitless, but a "tip this morning enabled them to discover the still and liquor. The still was a large boiler, and a gas stove was used for heating the grapes and raisins used. The coil was fastened in a large beer keg, with a small drain pipe at the bottom. Two hundred pounds of raisins in tubs also were seized. |
