Show AIDS TEACHERS Rssolutlon Urges Increase in Salaries; Philharmonic Orchestra Supported. Favoring an immediate increase of salary sal-ary for teachers in the Salt Lake schools, members of the Iviwanis club yesterday adopted a resolution pledging their support sup-port to both the teachers and the board ; of education in bringing about this in-t in-t crease. The resolution was read by Her-i Her-i bert Van Dam, Jr., president of the club, and was unanimously adopted. The resolution reso-lution follows: "Whereas, The Kiwanis dub of Salt Lake believes that teachers in .Salt Lake schools are inadequately paid and that they should at once receivu a substantial increase in salary; and, "Whereas, We are fully persuaded that ; the board of education reahzes this s'.tua-; s'.tua-; tion and is doing all it can to effect a remedy, but is met with great difficulty therein because of lack of funds; therefore, there-fore, he it "Resolved. That this club Is in favor of an immediate substantial increase of salary for Salt Lake school teachers; that we pledge our support ro both teachers and board of education tCwork out a solution so-lution of this problem; that we believe i we only state the common public opinion opin-ion in this attitude." Members of the Kiwanis club also .pledged their ind i vidua! support of the Salt Iike Philharmonic orchestra by voting vot-ing that each member purchase a set of tickets to each of three concerts to be arranged by the orchestra in the near future. The proceeds of the concerts will be used to continue tb.e work of the orchestra or-chestra here. Osborn Monnet of Chicago, who is now In Salt Lake investigating the smoke problem, was the principal speaker at the luncheon. He outlined the work accomplished accom-plished during the past weeks. He said that no definite report could be given until the work had been carried on over a four months' period. ZH Monnet expressed ex-pressed his opinion that the smoke could be reduced to a minimum through scientific scien-tific methods, but said that careful study was necessary before these methods could be applied. |
