Show BRITISH ARREST SIIJFJ I P. Member of Commons Is Caught in Course of Raids in Dublin. DUBLIN", Doc. 11. Thomas Kelly, Sinn Fein member of the house of commons, com-mons, tvtis arrested in the course of u number of raids by the police and the military today. The house searched included that of Count FHmkett, who was absent at the time. Tii3 Mansion houso was raided also. One hundred policemen and 500 soldiers were en-Kaged. en-Kaged. The soldiers, wearing steel helmets, arrived in motor lorries and carried rifles with fixed bayonets. They also were, provided with machine guns. While tho soldiers surrountljed the Mansion houso the policemen made, a search, which occupied three-quarters of an hour. There was no -disturbance. Colonel Johnson, the chief of police, explained to the mayor that the policemen police-men on duty had reported that a meeting meet-ing of tho Irish volunteers was being held at the Mansion house. It was learned, however, that the report was erroueous, added Colonel Johnson. LONDON, Dec. 1 1. Referring to the Irish loan, Chief Secretary MacPher-son MacPher-son declared in the house of commons today that it was for the purpose of propaganda for the Irish republic all over the world. " Wo do not intend to allow any government gov-ernment to usurp authority in Ireland,' Ire-land,' ' he said. Mr. MacPhcrson added that the number num-ber of what were called political prisoners pris-oners in Ireland was 151. The introduction of tho Irish bill in the house of commons was again postponed post-poned today. Andrew Bonar Law, spokesman for th? government, announced an-nounced that in consequence of the visit of Premier Clcmenceau of France, Premier Lloyd Gcorgo would be unable to bring the measure forward either Monday or Tuesday and ho could not say whether it would bo introduced next week. |
