Show ZUH MINE CUTS U BE out Nine Feet of Quartz Opened Up, With Three Feet of Silver-Lead. Special to The Tribune. EUREKA. Nov. 19. The most important impor-tant showing so far developed In the Zuma mine, which lies between the Crown Point and the East Turtle Consolidated, Con-solidated, with the Iron King, to the north and the East Crown Point on the south, was opened up in the south drift on the 000-foot level yesterday. Nino of quartz, with three feet of high-grade ore. have been uncovered. Assays of grab samples taken from the ore struck show the following values: Sample No. 1, SO cents in golld, eighty-three ounces of silver sil-ver 61 per cent lead and 2 per cent copper; cop-per; sample No. 2. SI In gold, OG ounces of silver, 6 per cent lead and 4 per cent CDuring last week. an important change was apparent In the south drift along a north-south break which dips slightly to the west. .Some very good ore was scattered scat-tered through the three-ioot body of quartz, which had been followed for a distance of 150 feet. Copper values appeared ap-peared on the foot wall and the entire quartz deposit seemed to be impregnated impreg-nated with lead and sliver values. The ground was loose and small caves were encountered. wane me v ' not sufficiently concentrated to make yossLble the saving of any commercial ore Manager P. J. Fennel unhesitating stated that the showing was better than anvthing previously encountered. At present enough work has not been done to tell in what direction the ore is making, but those who have visited trie mine state that the showing creates confidence con-fidence in regard to its permanence. Moreover, the presence of the copper is considered a promising indication in regard re-gard to permanence. The ore uncovered was on the bottom and a little to one side of the drift. It is thought that by turning the drift to one side a little distance dis-tance back from the face that the ore can be squarelv encountered. Several rounds of holes will be put into the face tomorrow, and. after these are fired, it is thought that a great deal more will be known concerning the importance of the strike. Zuma is largely owned by Eureka people. peo-ple. This development is adding strength to the belief, already strong, that as great ore bodies will be found on the east side as those struck in the Tintic Standard. P. J. Fennel, manager of the Zuma; W. F. Shriver, secretary; VV J. Trego -ning, local representative of W. H. Child & Co., Salt Lake brokers, and Thomas McCormick, assistant cashier of the Eureka Eu-reka Banking company, visited the mine and are optimistic in regard to the future fu-ture of the property. - Some months ago a seam of ore was encountered on the 500 level of the Zuma, which was followed with a winze. It dipped a little too flat to make practicable practi-cable the prospecting of the showing with a winze, so the shaft was funk to the S00 level. Two drifts were started, one to the west and one to the south, in which the recent sensational develop-in develop-in pnt Tvn s struck. |
