Show 0. S. AIRPLANES SOLOJMPL! Committee Told Machines Costing $6500 Each Bring Only $800. SACRAMENTO, Cal.t Sept. 15. Testimony Testi-mony that the Liberty iron works here had sold to the government airplanes for $6500 each, which the government resold to thfi Curtiss manufacturing company com-pany for $500 each, was given here today in a brief hearing by the subcommittee of the congressional aircraft investigating committee. The committee, which arrived here from the Pacific northwest, where it held several hearings on the work of the spruce production division, inspected Mather aviation field near here, in addition addi-tion to hearing testimony, and then left for Benicia. Harry Wetzel, superintendent of the iron works, gave the testimony as to the sale of the airolanes. He said the ! Liberty company was not notified that the government intended to resell the planes or it would have bought them back for at least $1500 each. He said the Curtiss company had resold the planes for a price he believed to have been in the neighborhood of $3500 each. Members oi the committee are Congressmen Con-gressmen Clarence L.
